Illinois Surgical Conference 2026 »

The Illinois Surgical Conference (ISC) is now accepting abstracts from residents throughout Illinois for its Founders’ Competition.
ISQIC with the Illinois Chapter of the ACS, the Metropolitan Chicago Chapter of the ACS, the Illinois Surgical Society and the Chicago Surgical Society will host the 7th annual event on April 10-11, 2026, in Chicago, IL. We are looking for residents and fellows to be a part of this conference to share your extraordinary work with colleagues from other Illinois hospitals. The ISC is a great forum to submit your abstracts for greater statewide visibility. Deadline for abstracts submission is February 15, 2026. Please see the conference details in link below. Cash prizes will be awarded for best presentations. Awards will be announced before the close of the conference.

ISQIC Research Spotlight: New Publications Driving Surgical Quality Improvement released in 2025
We are proud to share recent publications from ISQIC collaborators that showcase the power of collaborative research and quality improvement in surgical care:
“User-Centered Design of Trauma Systems Solutions for Retriage of Patients with Injury: Mixed Methods Study.”
Published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research, this study explores the use of a user-centered design approach to address critical gaps in retriage for severely injured patients. Researchers engaged frontline clinicians and hospital leaders across Illinois to co-develop solutions, ultimately identifying a centralized, systemwide bed tracker with hourly updates as the most robust and feasible intervention. This digital tool enhances transparency of trauma center resources and offers a scalable pathway to improve timely transfers, reduce under-triage, and strengthen outcomes for trauma patients. A Mixed-Methods Evaluation of a Collaborative-Wide Quality Improvement Project to Improve Post Discharge Venous Thromboembolism Chemoprophylaxis After Abdominopelvic Cancer Surgery. Published in Annals of Surgery Open, this study evaluates the impact of an ISQIC-led quality improvement initiative aimed at increasing adherence to post discharge VTE chemoprophylaxis guidelines. The project led to a significant increase in adherence rates and identified key barriers and facilitators across hospitals, offering a roadmap for future targeted interventions. Read Article

Looking to share your quality improvement (QI) work with a larger audience. As a member of ISQIC, the American College of Surgeons invites you to submit your QI projects as part of their Case Study Repository, a centralized platform of QI projects implemented by participants.
